My launches typically are at full throttle off the pad until I hit about 100m/s, then I immediately back off until I'm under 2 G's of acceleration - sometimes only a bit over one G. In any case, a good pilot will constantly watch the instrumentation and adjust it as needed, especially during the ascent, where most problems seem to happen (for me, anyway). If you want to maintain a constant rate of acceleration, you'll find that you have to back off the throttle as fuel is expended and as air resistance drops, then trip it back up as you drop engines.

You get a similar effect if you use parallel-staged liquid boosters, as well - they make tons of power for their mass right before burnout, and then you have to dump them and your TWR suffers and you have to trim up throttle to compensate. Combined, the two effects leads to a gradual increase in acceleration as your TWR increases. Also, there would be less atmosphere acting as drag against it. Secondly, as your remaining rocket burns fuel, it's getting lighter and lighter. So your thrust-to-weight ratio was quite a bit higher than it was after they burnt out. One, when you shed the SRB's, you're getting rid of them when they're very lightweight, and up until a few seconds before that, they were making thrust. Medicus: What you're experiencing is due to a few factors. Radial chutes are totally awesome for this.Īnyone else having budget troubles or other problems? Or are we having success? I think the key is to bring back as much as you can land safely.
#Kerbal space program tvtropes manual
Pretty much the entire space program from start to now has been all manual data recovery. I might make a ghetto probe and do the Eve thing. I have job offers for an Ike landing and Eve landing. Raster Prop Monitor is also included, but that's mostly cosmetic fluff.

Only mods I'm running is the AIES parts pack, which is mostly balanced with stock parts, and integrated into the tech tree. Duna lander mission was about the same cost (most of it being the launcher - Mainsails and gray Rockomax-32 tanks in parallel). Not sure how they're doing that, it's not an issue for me, even after blowing 150k for a Minmus orbital labratory that I launched without a contract (so I can reuse science gear there). Some folks I know kept running out of money. One-star jobs are only undertaken if they can be done without adversly impacting my next mission (although I did a few "test this widged at the launchpad" ones all by themselves). Those three-star jobs are wonderful for making lots of money. Got just over 900k in the bank (the Duna trip netted me double what the cost of the mission was).
